Lexington does little to regulate tree removal, and the precious few measures we do have are ineffective and often ignored. We have an ample canopy in wooded areas and conservation land, but we are losing our tree cover where it most impacts quality of life: near our homes and public spaces. We’ll discuss the various ways in which our tree protections are failing. Fortunately, these problems have simple solutions if we can gather the political momentum to protect our trees and all they do to buffer us from the impacts of climate change.
