Vote YES on June 16 to reduce Waste

What if we could cut down a third of Lexington’s household trash?

Voting YES at the special Election on June 16 offers us a chance to do just that!

Voting YES is a climate action to reduce trash. YES means the town will still collect one free bin of trash per household weekly and may charge a reasonable fee for trash in excess of one bin. According to MassDEP, charging fees for excess trash is the single most effective way to reduce municipal solid waste. Lexington is behind – half of Massachusetts towns already have similar programs and see a 25-50% reduction in trash!

Voting YES will enable town staff to continue to develop a trash program that reduces trash tonnage and spending, distributes trash costs more equitably and saves tax dollars for other vital services.

Voting YES is a proven method for reducing trash, which limits the greenhouse gases produced from creating and incinerating trash that goes up in smoke and creates pollution that affects environmental justice communities.

Where does all that “waste” go? It gets diverted into sustainable systems:

– Food Waste Composting

– Mindful and Enhanced Recycling

– Donate & Reuse

– Conscious purchasing and consumerism

The climate connection is clear! Voting YES is taking action!

We need a STRONG turnout. Vote YES on June 16.

Let’s cut the waste!
