The proposed Hanscom expansion would add capacity for super-emitter private jets, consume an expected 5.5 million gallons of aviation fuel annually, and emit a staggering 250,000 new tons of CO2e per year. If expansion takes place, private jet emissions from Hanscom alone would cancel nearly 70% of the climate gains from all solar PV ever installed in Massachusetts.

In their recently filed Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR), the developers make the astonishing claims that this expansion will decrease flights, decrease emissions, help meet Net Zero goals (because their buildings are “green”), and promote sustainable aviation fuels. These assertions are deeply flawed and misleading.

The public comment period for the DEIR is now open until May 10th.

We will be using the STOP PRIVATE JET EXPANSION (SPJE) campaign’s Public Comment Toolkit as our guide. If you prefer to submit a comment on your own find the Public Comment Toolkit here: spje.org/DEIRtools
