LexZeroWaste is thrilled to announce a plastic-free bag program at the Lexington Farmers Market featuring both compostable and cotton reusable bags. On Tuesday, Aug 5th they’ll be at the market distributing cotton mesh bags to the first 300 shoppers to use and re-use for their produce. Additionally, LZW will provide farms at the market with over 3,000 compostable produce bags to use for bagging their produce instead of plastic.
We hope you’ll visit the market and start a new habit with reusable bags and encourage farms to continue to provide compostable bags on their own after their LexZeroWaste-supplied bags run out!
Tips:
- Because they show the BPI certification logo, you can put the light green Biobag produce bags from the farms in your curbside compost bin when you no longer need them.
- You can toss your cotton mesh bags in the laundry so they’ll stay clean for years as you re-use them.
- And remember, zero waste means not creating waste, or even composting a bag – if it’s not necessary, so if you don’t really need a bag for an item, just politely decline!
