The ECICC is developing Massachusetts’ first embodied carbon reduction plan, due January 1, 2026. This plan will establish guidelines for low embodied carbon building materials in state projects and could influence building practices statewide.
This meeting, the first public meeting of the ECICC, will help shape the future of sustainable construction in our state.
The meeting will feature presentations from:
- Commissioner Adam Baacke (Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance)
- Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer (Office of Climate Innovation and Resilience)
Following the presentations, individuals have the opportunity to provide feedback on key policy areas including:
- Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for state material procurement
- Global Warming Potential (GWP) limits for building materials
- Building deconstruction and reuse incentives
- Embodied carbon integration into building codes
- Additional sustainability measures
This is a chance to influence policies that will impact:
- Climate goals and carbon reduction
- Construction industry practices
- Building material standards
