For most of human history, our survival depended on two things: group loyalty and split-second decisions. Today, those same ancient instincts are plugged into a network of billions of strangers and an endless stream of content. Deception is a universal survival strategy in nature; the difference is that humans are the only species with a global megaphone. By understanding how the rapid pace of technology has outpaced our evolved defenses, we can see misinformation not as a personal failure, but as a biological challenge.  In this presentation, Melanie Trecek-King places our modern misinformation crisis into a biological and historical context, and explores how our ancient hardware makes us vulnerable and provides the practical tools we need to navigate the digital age without getting played.
