Backyard Bird Sanctuaries with Bill Gette

When

April 10, 2024
10:00 am - 11:00 am

IN PERSON: RSVP

Bill Gette began leading area, domestic U.S., and international travel programs for Mass. Audubon in 1986 and has traveled to all seven continents studying and photographing wildlife. In 1966 he became Audubon’s founding director of the Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport, where he developed a Birder’s Certificate Program for college-level courses.  He operated a banding station at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for over 20 years and remains active in teaching workshops and being a board member of the refuge.

Bill Gette will review bird species typically seen at local feeding stations and backyard sanctuaries. Highlighted will be how ranges and populations of many bird species have changed due to climate, land use, and development changes. Bill will discuss planting flowers and shrubs that provide food and cover for birds, managing your garden during the growing season to provide food for the birds you want to attract, and aiding in field identification.
