 ZOOM AT THIS LINK\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Town is preparing to roll out a moder
 nized waste collection program in the summer of 2027 that will help contro
 l rising costs and reduce waste. The new system will include transitioning
  to automated collection\, which will mean residents will be provided with
  new wheeled carts for both trash and recycling. Trash\, recycling\, and c
 ompost will continue to be picked up weekly while also accommodating house
 holds with income\, mobility or medical constraints.\n\nThe next step is 
 for residents to advocate through emails\, conversations with other resid
 ents\, and participation in community forums to support the option for a f
 ree 35-gallon bin as the baseline.\n\nPlease take these steps:\n\n1. Pla
 n to attend a community forum (dates below) and speak up to say you want a
  program with a 35 gallon trash bin as a baseline. Please sign up here s
 o we know we can count on you! Even better\, ask a neighbor to join you an
 d also participate:\n\n- Wednesday\, August 26th at 6:30 pm (Community Cen
 ter Dining Room and Virtual)\n\n- Wednesday\, September 2 at 6:30 pm (Virt
 ual only)\n\n- Friday\, September 4 at 9:30 am (Community Center Rm 237) 
 - Women League of Voters First Friday Event\n\n- Monday\, September 14 at 
 noon (Virtual only)\n\n- Tuesday\, September 15 at 6:30 pm (Police Commun
 ity Room and Virtual)\n\n2. Write to a select board member explaining why
  you would like the 35 gallon trash bin as a baseline\, and ask folks in y
 our networks to do the same. Use your own words\, but if you need help get
 ting started\, we encourage you to write about your own household and neig
 hbors\, (Do you compost? How much trash do you create weekly?) and focus o
 n the benefits that are most important to you:\n\n- Reduction of trash to 
 reduce pollution\n\n- Conservation of natural resources: Reducing waste sa
 ves space in landfills which can be used for materials that can't be compo
 sted or recycled.\n\n- Continuing to reduce town trash tonnage: This grap
 h shows how much of Lexington's trash is made up of materials that could 
 be recycled or composted.\n\n- Reduction of costs: You pay for trash colle
 ction through your taxes!\n\n- Greater equity: Households that generate mo
 re trash will have to pay more\, and this will incentivize changes in beha
 vior\n\n- Creating a program for the future!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe chart above will be pres

 17\, showing two different options for what limit to place on free trash.
