SUMMARY:Why aren't we protecting Lexington's trees? - LexCAN's Monthly Meet
 ing
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL: ZOOM LINK\n\nNo Recording Available\n\nLexington does
little to regulate tree removal\, and the precious few measures we do have
are ineffective and often ignored. We have an ample canopy in wooded area
s and conservation land\, but we are losing our tree cover where it most i
mpacts quality of life: near our homes and public spaces. We’ll discuss
the various ways in which our tree protections are failing. Fortunately\,
these problems have simple solutions if we can gather the political moment
um to protect our trees and all they do to buffer us from the impacts of c
limate change.\n\n\n\nPresentation by Dan Miller. https://www.lextrees.org

SUMMARY:Film & Discussion: Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet
DESCRIPTION:IN PERSON: NO REGISTRATION\n\nDavid Attenborough and scientist
Johan Rockström examine Earth's biodiversity collapse exploring issues re
lated to nature\, climate change\, and the future of humanity. This crisis
can still be averted. The film examines just how far we've pushed Earth b
eyond the boundaries that have kept our planet stable for millennia\, and
what steps must be taken to turn things around. Earth's life support syste
ms have been so damaged that the planet is “well outside the safe operat
ing space for humanity” scientists have warned. Their assessment found t
hat six out of nine “planetary boundaries” had been broken because of
human-caused pollution and destruction of the natural world. This document
ary is an eye opener with critically important storytelling. This is the s
tory we all need to see to grasp the gravity of our planet's future. The f
uture is not determined\, rather it is in our hands.\n\nIn Robinson Hall i

expansion takes place\, private jet emissions from Hanscom alone would can

support regenerative farming and help enrich the land for generations to
come.Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut succ
ess documentary\, Kiss the Ground\, which touched over 1 billion people gl
obally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to
put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic exposé with de
eply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement\,
Common Ground unveils a dark web of money\, power\, and politics behind o
ur broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our cu
rrent farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to fe
ed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white\, black
\, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative "regenerative" models
of agriculture that could balance the climate\, save our health\, and stab

free. Registration is required.\n\nClimate change is coming to a location
near you! After witnessing two hurricanes assault two areas that have bee
n historically untouched by the effects of hurricanes\, we can more clearl
y understand that these super charged hurricanes and weather events are ju
st one of the effects of climate change that we need to address!\n\nOne of
  the world’s wealthiest\, most-educated cities made a fateful decision t
o spend billions of dollars erecting a new district along its coast — on
landfill\, at sea level. Unlike other places imperiled by climate change\
, this neighborhood of glass towers housing some of the world’s largest
companies was built well after scientists began warning of the threats\, i
ncluding many at its renowned universities. The city\, which already has m
ore high-tide flooding than nearly any other in the United States\, called
its new quarter the Innovation District. But with seas rising inexorably\
, and at an accelerating rate\, others are calling the neighborhood by a d
 ifferent name: Inundation District. (www.inundationdistrict.com)\n\nCo-spo
