SUMMARY:DCR Lakes and Ponds: Aquatic Invasive Species Identification Worksh
 op
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\n\nLearn how to identify aquatic plants and pro
tect your local waterbody from invasive species through this hands-on work
shop led by DCR’s Lakes and Ponds Program. View live plant specimens and
learn key features of common invasives that can be found in the SuAsCo wa
tershed.\n\nBy learning to detect invasive plants early\, participants can
help prevent new infestations from becoming established. Early detection
increases the chance that invasive plants can be eradicated before they sp
read\, saving both ecological value and costs.\n\nRegistration required\,
limited to 25 participants.\nSome common invasives to be aware of:\n\n\n
Hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata): Highly aggressive\, grows an inch a da
y\, and spreads via turions and fragmentation.\n Eurasian Watermilfoil
(Myriophyllum spicatum): Widespread\, forming dense mats that choke out na
tive vegetation.\n Water Chestnut (Trapa natans): Forms floating\, thor
ny rosettes that impede navigation and recreation.\n Fanwort (Cabomba ca
roliniana): Common in lakes and rivers\, often spreading through fragment
ing.\n Curly-leaf Pondweed (Potamogeton crispus): An early-growing invas
ive found in many waterbodies.\n Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria):
Frequently found on the margins of lakes and wetlands.\n\n\nLearn more by
viewing the DCR Lakes &amp\; Ponds educational materials here.\n
