 ery\, and the Future of Our Oceans as part of the Cary Hall Lecture series
 .\n\nEarth is an ocean planet—more than 70% of our home is covered by wa
 ter\, most of it unseen and unexplored. Dr. Anna Michel has devoted her li
 fe’s work to exploring this unknown. As Associate Scientist at Woods Hol
 e Oceanographic Institution and Chief Scientist of the National Deep Subme
 rgence Facility––the first woman to hold this position––she develo
 ps new tools to monitor and understand the changing ocean. Her work takes 
 her from the icy Canadian Arctic to track greenhouse gas emissions\, to de
 ep-sea volcanoes teeming with life\, to coastal waters affected by micropl
 astics. Whether she is three miles below the surface in the submersible Al
 vin or working with engineers in her lab\, Dr. Michel is helping to unlock
  the ocean’s secrets and protect our blue planet from pollution and clim
 ate change. Inspired by her early experiences in ocean exploration from hi
 gh school onward\, she has become a strong advocate for girls and women in
  STEM.\n\nAttendance is on a first-come basis.\n\nThis program is in partn
